A WOMAN has been hailed a “legend” for revealing the exact supermarket aisle you need to visit to save money on essential items.
Money saving whizz Lynn shared her hack via a video posted to her TikTok channel.
She said that the World Foods aisle is so much cheaper[/caption]
Lynn explained that when you go to the supermarket to buy seasoning, such as paprika or garlic powder, you shouldn’t get it from the seasoning aisle.
She revealed that in this aisle the seasoning is expensive, demonstrating that you get just 46g of garlic powder, for £1 and 36 grams of ground coriander for £1.
“This seems reasonable until you see some sense”, she said.
The savvy saver explained that you should instead “take your two feet” and walk down the aisles until you see the World Foods aisle.
Most large supermarkets have one of these and you can find lots of bargains, like large bags of rice for very cheap.
“It’s way, way cheaper here”, Lynn said.
Showing a bag of garlic powder to the camera, she revealed that you get 100g of seasoning for £1.30.
This means that you get a product that is more than double in price, for just 30p more.
Although this may not seem like a massive money saver at first, if you are cooking with seasoning every day, this will end up saving you a fortune in the long run.
Granted, these large bags of spices aren’t as aesthetically pleasing as the small glass jars you find in the seasoning aisle, and probably won’t fit on your spice rack, but you can always refill the glass jars you already own with the cheaper seasoning.
“So now you know, go and save yourself some money”, Lynn said.
Over the past few years, the cost of living crisis has caused food prices to spiral, with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reporting that the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by a whopping 25% between January 2022 and January 2024.
Therefore, many of us are looking for any means possible to cut down the costs of the weekly shop.
The money saving whizz’s hack, which was posted under the username @lynnsaves, has likely left many people impressed, as it has racked up over 730,000 views on the video sharing platform.
TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts on Lynn’s tip.
How to save money on your supermarket shop
THERE are plenty of ways to save on your grocery shop.
You can look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they’ve been reduced.
If the food is fresh, you’ll have to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.
Making a list should also save you money, as you’ll be less likely to make any rash purchases when you get to the supermarket.
Going own brand can be one easy way to save hundreds of pounds a year on your food bills too.
This means ditching “finest” or “luxury” products and instead going for “own” or value” type of lines.
Plenty of supermarkets run wonky veg and fruit schemes where you can get cheap prices if they’re misshapen or imperfect.
For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering boxes of 5kg of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.
If you’re on a low income and a parent, you may be able to get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers to use at the supermarket too.
Plus, many councils offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.
One person said: “I always do this and it tastes just as good”.
A second person said: “You’re an absolute legend for this tip!”.
Another person said: “It’s even cheaper if you go to your local Asian supermarket”.
A fourth person said: “I think it’s similar with cotton wool.
“It’s cheaper down the baby aisle than in the beauty aisle.”
A fifth joked: “Nooo, you’ve let the secret out”.
