NEXT time you tuck into a burger or dessert while eating out you may wish to take a note of what colour the restaurant walls are.
Yes, you heard right. An expert has revealed that colour can have a significant effect on our dining experience – and different shades can improve even taste and happiness levels.
A colour expert has said that pink restaurants – like The Knot Churros – make you feel energised[/caption]
Psychological reactions to colours have an important effect on appetite, with various colours boosting feelings of hunger and excitement.
It turns out pink evokes feelings of joy and can leave you feeling more energised, according to new research by dessert bar The Knot Churros – who chose the colour for their own interiors.
Of those surveyed, 76 per cent of people reported a significant energy boost if a restaurant used a pink colour palate, than those that didn’t.
Green was next on the list of Brits favourite colours, with 59 per cent of Brits claiming it made them feel happier and more considerate of their food choices.
Next up was ‘baby blue’ and ‘sunshine yellow’ bringing them the most joy when dining out at 32 per cent.
In fact, nearly a third of Brits (28 per cent) report that a restaurant’s colour palate is as important as the menu.
Colour psychologist Michelle Lewis said: “Colour is one of the most predominant elements in the world that makes us actually FEEL something – be that love, hate, passion, interest, excitement, joy, and even hunger.
“The colour pink has been found to prompt us to want to sit down, cuddle up and socialise us to reach for our favourite comfort foods, specifically sweet treats and desserts as 21 per cent of us admit to those feelings of hunger when in Pink hues.”
Michelle added that we really do “eat with our eyes” when it comes to dining, and if we find our surroundings “beautiful”, we enjoy the food more.
She added: “It’s also proven that when people eat in a pink environment, their body and mind remain calm.”
