Almost every format holder has now managed to leak a release date ahead of The Game Awards 20202, with Street Fighter 6 the latest victim.
After Steam leaked the release date of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Microsoft let slip the release date of Diablo 4, it’s now been Sony’s turn to spoil the surprises of The Game Awards 2022, with what seems to be the release date of Street Fighter 6.
You’d think at this point people would learn to be careful, but clearly not, which is especially surprising for Street Fighter 6 as there was previously no clue as to when it’s coming out, other than some time next year.
Not only is that a mistake video game companies keep making, but so too is the fact that Street Fighter 6’s June 2 release date is almost exactly the same as Diablo 4.
Although sometimes they don’t know, as presumably was the case here, publishers have a terrible habit of releasing nothing major for months and then everything within the same small window of time.
According to the leak, Street Fighter 6 is out on Friday, June 2 and Diablo 4 is out just three days later on Monday, June 5 (Blizzard games often come out on a Monday).
Since the two games aren’t at all similar that doesn’t necessarily conflict, but if you happen to be a fan of both series that’s a lot of money to have to find at the same time.
The leak on the PlayStation Store also revealed that there’ll be Deluxe and Ultimate versions of the game, which is no surprise, but not what their contents are.
Both games are also only a week or so before E3 2023, but it remains to be seen how big that will be next year, especially as The Game Awards has now taken over as the premier preview event of the year.
Speaking of which, Capcom has confirmed that they will be at the event tonight. They didn’t say what they’d be showing, but it’s almost certain to include Street Fighter 6 and the official reveal of its release date – which is how Sony came to update their store page in the first place.
