Every single starter pokémon, and maybe a new element type, will be added to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s second DLC expansion.
The newest trailer comes in the wake of the Pokémon World Championships event and while it focuses exclusively on The Indigo Disk – the second expansion slated for winter – it promises something exciting for avid pokémon collectors.
For the first time in the series, every previous starter pokémon will be readily available for you to catch and add to your party.
There have been instances of Pokémon games making starters from previous entries available, but these were usually limited to special events or one-off in-game rewards.
What the trailer is promising is that all these pokémon can be encountered and caught in the wild, so you don’t have to transfer them from previous games.
The full list is:
This obviously excludes the starter Pokémon introduced in Scarlet & Violet – Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly – but perhaps they’ll become more readily available in a future game.
The trailer also lists off some new moves for pokémon to learn, plus information on the two new paradox pokémon, now known as Raging Bolt and Iron Crown.
The most intriguing detail comes at the very end, as the game cycles through each of its Tera Types before landing on a never-before-seen symbol.
This could be hinting at an all-new 19th type, which will be the first since the fairy type was introduced in 2013’s Pokémon X & Y.
Given the focus on the Terastallisation mechanic, though, perhaps it’s something unique to that. A purported leak from last month did claim that the DLC will introduce unique Terastallisation transformations for certain pokémon, in a manner similar to Mega Evolutions.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
