The Red Devils progressed to round fourth round with a comfortable 3-1 win against Paul Ince’s side.
After a frustrating first half, Casemiro opened the scoring when he finished off a fine Antony through ball and he grabbed his second with a long-range curling effort minutes later.
That took Casemiro’s attacking contributions this season to 11, with the Brazilian scoring five goals and providing six assists in a red shirt.
Casemiro’s performances have quashed any suggestion that he was looking for an easy pay day at Old Trafford and his ability on the ball – having provided the defensive security for Toni Kroos and Luka Modric for close to a decade – has surprised many onlookers.
Keane is famously difficult to please but even the Irishman admits Casemiro has been fantastic since his arrival and he praised Erik ten Hag for acquiring the Brazilian.
‘He’s been a huge signing,’ Keane told ITV.
‘Over the last few years for Man Utd, particularly in the middle of the park, they’ve lacked a quality player with a big personality, a guy with a bit of presence.
‘He’s a top-quality player. We see it week in, week out. He affects games.’
‘Before he came there was this perception he’s a sitting midfielder because of working with different players at Real Madrid, players who are more attack-minded.
‘But we’re now seeing over the last few months he’s got so much quality going forward in terms of the final pass and he’s getting goals, as well as being very, very good defensively.
‘A huge signing for Man Utd and a big personality, which Man Utd needed.’
