AFTER struggling with hair loss, a DIYer found a way to grow their locks long again.

Their special recipe for stronger strands uses just two affordable ingredients.

Redditor Libra44423 explained when they began noticing the difference in their hair.

“The first time I had Covid I lost a third of my hair over the following months,” they said.

Resolute in their determination to regrow their locks, they made their own concoction.

“I make a rosemary and peppermint ‘tea’ and spray it on my scalp and massage it in at the end of my shower,” they said.

“I just buy rosemary and peppermint from the coolers at the grocery store, boil two to three cups of water, throw a few sprigs of each in and boil for ten minutes,” they continued.

They explained how they let everything sit for an hour before adding the liquid into a small spray bottle.

Pro tip – they purchased the bottle from the travel section.

“Keep it in the fridge, although you may want to set it out an hour before you wash your hair so you aren’t squirting yourself with ice-cold water,” they said.

“The rest of the rosemary and peppermint can go in the freezer until you’re ready to make another batch.”

One Redditor was curious about where they found the items.

“What do you mean by coolers?” the user asked.

“In the grocery store near my house they have coolers/refrigerated sections near the fresh produce where they keep things like salads, cut-up fruit and veggies, salad dressings that need to be kept cold, and small packets of fresh herbs,” they replied.

Target also sells a package of Good and Gather Organic Rosemary for $2.99.

Rosemary has properties that are beneficial for stimulating hair growth, according to Healthline.

They pointed to a study where those suffering from alopecia areata who rubbed a rosemary essential oil blend into their scalp each day for seven months showed a 44% improvement in their hair loss.

The same platform user had yet another question.

“Have you noticed a difference in your hair with just the water – no oil?” they asked.

“I definitely notice less hair fall when I’m using it consistently, and more when I skip it/slack off/forget to use it for too long,” they replied.

They also incorporated a supplement into their routine.

“I noticed the most new baby hairs once I did the rinse consistently, plus increasing my protein consumption and taking a hair, skin, and nails vitamin that contains both biotin and collagen,” they continued.

What causes hair loss?

Alexander Armand is a celebrity hairstylist and the creator of hair loss oil Flourish by Alexander Armand.

“Some common causes for hair loss include stress, alopecia, hereditary hair loss, chemical treatments, high tension hairstyles, diet, and certain medications,” Armand told The U.S. Sun.

“Androgenetic Alopecia which is also known as pattern baldness, is the most common cause of hair loss and is a genetic condition that causes hair thinning on the crown and top of the head in women, and thinning and receding hairlines in men.

“Telogen Effluvium is the technical term for a temporary form of hair loss that occurs when a large number of hair follicles enter the resting (telogen) phase due to stress, illness, surgery, childbirth, or major life changes.

“Hair typically grows back within a few months.

“Alopecia Areata is another form of alopecia that is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss in patches.

“The severity varies, some people may lose all hair while others may experience regrowth.

“When it relates to your diet, deficiencies in nutrients such as iron, vitamin D, biotin, zinc, and protein can contribute to hair loss.

“Traction alopecia can occur due to tight hairstyles like ponytails, braids, or buns that put stress on the hair follicles.

“Excessive heat styling or chemical treatments can also damage hair.

“Also, certain medications, like chemotherapy drugs, blood thinners, and some antidepressants, can cause hair loss as a side effect.”

They explained how there can be many reasons for hair loss and recommended those trying to get to the root of their problem opt for a blood panel.

“You need enough of certain vitamins and minerals – D3, iron, and zinc are major ones – for good hair growth.

“Too much of any of them can have the opposite effect and cause further hair loss as well,” they continued.

Some common prescriptions for combatting hair issues include minoxidil and spironolactone.

“I have hypothyroidism and when my meds aren’t right my hair and especially my eyebrows thin out.”

“The majority of my struggle right now is recovering from all the loss I experienced after I had COVID.”
