The Spurs manager has asked all the fans with Tottenham tickets to be patient with Dominic Solanke as he settles in at the club.
The star signing for Spurs in the summer came in the form of Solanke, who cost £65 million ($86m) from Bournemouth and is likely to replace Harry Kane.
But for many with Tottenham tickets, the expectations for Solanke are record-high. While Solanke delivered when it mattered, the manager wanted to give him time.
Postecoglou wants Fans to Have Patience With Solanke
The 27-year-old became the Spurs’ club-record signing last month, but he missed out on a few games after suffering an ankle injury during his debut at Leicester City.
After returning from injury, Solanke showed what he was capable of, scoring three goals in the next few games.
This relieved all the fans with Tottenham tickets, knowing they’d invested their money right.
Asked whether the price tag and increased level of expectation was something Solanke would have to get used to, Postecoglou said: “I don’t know because people are just so quick to judge, mate. It’s a small sample.
“We don’t have to rush to make judgment all the time because the alternative is he may have got off to a great start, he is fit, scored in all four games, is flying, and then he goes through a patch like all strikers where he doesn’t score.
“I just don’t look at those things. I look at how he has come in, fitted really well, and quite logically has picked up an injury that has disrupted the way he wanted to start his career, but he’s still got plenty of time for that.”
The Spurs manager and all of the fans with Tottenham tickets slowly recovered from their loss against Brighton after leading 2-0. It’s time for consistency in the Spurs’ progression.
The fans weren’t happy with how the team combated the second half on the day despite being extremely successful in the first. But these worries were put to bed as the Spurs smashed West Ham in an emphatic 4-1 win.
Spurs Smash West Ham
To get the critics off his back, Postecoglou needed a convincing win in the London derby on the back of his side’s poor second-half showing against Brighton, and that is exactly what the Spurs players delivered.
The game did not start off the way the Australians would have wanted. The away side opened the scoring and frustrated the Lilywhites with a low block.
However, things started clicking into gear for Tottenham mid-way into the first half, and they blew the Hammers away at the start of the second period, emerging with a comfortable 4-1 win.
Postecoglou insisted that he did not think there was too much wrong with his side’s showing in the first period, but he confessed that it was a real arm wrestle in the middle of the park.
He remarked that his side went up a gear once they got more control in the middle of the park following the introduction of Pape Sarr at the interval.
When asked if he was pleased with Tottenham’s second-half display, Postecoglou told the media, “It was very good. Even in the first half, we had to work pretty hard; it was a bit of an arm wrestle. They’re a big, physical team, and you must match them in certain areas.
“Second half, we went up a gear, and again, I thought our football was excellent, but we did some of that hard stuff we needed to do to gain control, particularly in the midfield area, and it gave us a good platform.”
Substitutions made the difference
Some Spurs fans with Tottenham tickets might have been bewildered by Postecoglou’s decision to replace James Maddison with a more defensively-minded player in Sarr.
However, the Senegalese star’s introduction allowed the Lilywhites to win possession back in the middle of the park on several occasions, leaving the Hammers’ backline exposed.
And at the end, the manager’s gamble was all worth it.
Madrid Searching for Spurs Superstar
News ahead of the January transfer window will be boring to the fans with Tottenham tickets as Real Madrid is chasing another star in the Spurs lineup.
Real Madrid’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro has been a hot topic in recent weeks, with several reports suggesting that the Spanish giants are keen to secure his services.
However, to turn this interest into reality, Los Blancos will need to formulate a strategy that could see them part with over £60 million to convince Tottenham to part ways with their star defender.
Since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon two years ago, Pedro Porro has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents.
His ability to contribute to both ends of the pitch aligns perfectly with Carlo Ancelotti’s high-tempo playing style, making him a desirable target for the Madrid coach.
Recent reports indicate that Tottenham are not actively looking to sell Porro. Instead, the club is keen on retaining his services, particularly with Djed Spence now tied to a new contract, which strengthens their defensive options.
This means Real Madrid will have to be smart about their approach, as Spurs will probably want to make a decent profit on the £39 million they spent to bring Porro in.
Real Madrid should think about starting with an offer of over £60 million to win over the Tottenham board. This kind of bid would show they mean business and likely align with Tottenham’s financial goals, giving them a chance to make a healthy profit.
This approach could entice Spurs to reconsider their stance on Porro, particularly if they believe they can reinvest the funds effectively into other areas of the squad.
While Tottenham does not entertain the prospect of losing Porro, the reality is that in football, significant offers can often lead to unexpected outcomes.
If Real Madrid can frame their offer as a win-win scenario for both clubs, it may make the decision easier for Spurs. The potential for a transfer fee that exceeds £60 million could open the door for negotiations, even if Tottenham remains committed to keeping their superstar.
