It seems Criterion Games has plans for another Need For Speed, as it invites content creators to the studio for feedback.
Despite the financial failure of 2022’s Need For Speed Unbound, it seems the franchise is set to return for another new entry.
As circulated on the Need For Speed Reddit, multiple content creators within the racing game sphere have been invited to developer Criterion Games in Guildford.
One of these content creators is Militia Gaming Community’s Trigger, who shared his whereabouts on his official Discord.
‘As you might have noticed, content on the channel has slowed down a little this week,’ Trigger writes in the post, as shared on Reddit. ‘I just wanted to let everyone know that it’s actually for an amazing reason. I’m currently in Guildford, UK this week visiting EA to provide some feedback on Need For Speed. That’s unfortunately, about all I can say at this point.’
Others at the event include KuruHS, who also runs his own racing game YouTube channel. ‘I am visiting Criteriom/EA/Guildford to feed back on Need For Speed,’ he wrote on his Discord.
While it’s unclear whether this feedback relates to a new Need For Speed in development or the franchise at large, it’s at least evidence that the series is still alive to some degree.
It’s also evidence that influencers don’t understand what an NDA is, but that’s long been obvious.
This could be in connection with the previously rumoured remake of Need For Speed: Most Wanted. Last year, actress Simone Bailly, who appeared in the 2005 original, claimed a remake would be released in 2024. As you’d expect, the post was swiftly deleted, suggesting it is on the cards.
A remake might make the most sense though considering that not only was Unbound a flop but it’s a long time since the franchise’s glory days, when it was essentially the Call Of Duty of its day and regularly the best-selling game at Christmas – at least in the UK.
