Ivan Toney has laughed off Thomas Frank’s admission that it is ‘relatively obvious’ he will be sold in the summer after helping Brentford to an impressive 2-0 victory away to Wolves.

The England international – who recently returned from an eight-month ban for gambling offences – scored his third goal in four Premier League games to double the visitors’ lead after Christian Norgaard’s headed opener at Molineux.

Much of the talk in the build-up the the clash surrounded Toney’s future after Thomas Frank conceded it was highly likely his star striker would be on the move at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old forward was heavily linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the January transfer window and the Brentford manager admitted it would be ‘fun’ to see him turn out for a ‘top team’.

Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the Brentford boss said: ‘It is relatively obvious that Ivan Toney will probably be sold this summer.

‘We also know what he is worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.

‘He is a really skilled striker who is in his prime football age. Personally, as a coach, I would prefer to keep Toney but one day it could be fun to see him on a top team.

‘This winter we actually had no offers for him, but it will surprise me if there aren’t a lot of clubs that will be interested in him.’

Toney – who has made no secret of his desire to play for a ‘top club’ – took Frank’s comments in good humour as he spoke to BBC Sport shortly after Brentford’s impressive away win.

‘I see that as he doesn’t want me! [laughs],’ he joked when asked about Frank’s statement in the week.

‘Nah, the manager has said what he’s said but listen, I can’t make clubs come and get me.

‘I’ve just got to keep doing what I do and that’s score goals and like I said, what will be, will be.’

Brentford’s victory – their first on the road since the end of October – put a six-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone and Toney felt it was a ‘massive’ result for the club.

‘It’s massive. I think we work hard week in, week out. We work on a defensive basis,’ he added.

‘Obviously, the last few games haven’t the best. We’ve conceded way too many goals and I think that’s obvious.

‘But today the main thing was clean sheet and to win the game and we managed to get that.’
