It doesn’t seem as if Persona 3 Reload is going to be the last remake for the series as two separate sources claim that more are on the way.
Persona used to be considered purely a PlayStation franchise but while Persona 5 and its director’s cut did remain timed exclusives for some time, they and Persona 3 and 4 are now available on all modern formats.
This year’s remake Persona 3 Reload launched simultaneously on all formats except Switch and now rumours suggest that Persona 4 is going to get the same treatment, as well as one of the older titles.
A remake of 2008’s Persona 4 is not much of a shock, assuming Reload isn’t a surprise flop, but supposedly there will also be a remaster of the more obscure Persona 2.
Japanese insider Midori has long been considered a reliable source for Atlus information and in response to fans asking about possible remakes of Persona 2 and 4, they replied that ‘both exist at Atlus’.
They offered no further information but on the ResetEra forum, leaker Head on the Block (aka I’m a Hero Too) offered a few more snippets of information, stating that the Persona 4 remake hasn’t entered production yet – which means it’s years away at this point.
They also clarified that Persona 2 is not a remake but a remaster, which means it’ll still look like the original PlayStation game and its PSP remaster.
Confusingly, there are actually two Persona 2 games, with 1999’s Innocent Sin originally being Japanese-only and 2000’s Eternal Punishment only released in Japan and North America.
Although the PSP remake of Innocent Sin was released worldwide, oddly the PSP version of Eternal Punishment was only available in Japan.
Supposedly the new remaster will include both games and a new translation. However, it’s not stated whether it will be based on the PSP remakes or not.
Interestingly, Head on the Block also states that Persona 2 will be released on ‘every console including Switch 2 and next gen Xbox.’
Whether there is a next gen Xbox or not has been a matter of great debate in the last few days, and it’s unclear whether Head on the Block has specific insider information on that or is just taking it for granted – but it does seem to imply that they consider the rumour of a new Xbox console in 2026 to be accurate.
If that also hints at the release date of Persona 2 it’s not clear whether it will be out before or after Persona 6, which is also rumoured for the same year.
