NINTENDO only confirmed that a successor to its console the Switch was in development this year, but rumours have been circulating for much longer.

President Shuntaro Furukawa tweeted that the Switch’s successor, known by players as the Switch 2, is in development, and that more would be revealed before April 2025.

It was very little to go off, but it did finally confirm what people have believed for years.

The Switch is Nintendo’s best-selling home console of all time, and it seemed obvious that Nintendo would want to continue with the hybrid console design.

Images have leaked online featuring parts of what is apparently the Switch 2.

The images are from an anonymous source, so it should be noted that they may not be reliable.

However, if the images are of a Switch 2, then it gives us some interesting information about the upcoming console.

The photos show a console that looks surprisingly similar to existing Switch models, with a few small but important differences.

The first is that there will reportedly be a USB-C charging port on both the top and bottom of the console.

This would allow for the system to be docked using the port at the bottom of the console, but the port at the top would allow for easier charging when in handheld mode.

The next major difference is that the system in the images features an 8-inch screen, which is noticeably larger than the existing Switch’s 7-inch screen.

The Switch 2 will also apparently have new magnetic Joy-Con, something that has been rumoured for a long time.

There is no slide rail on the system in the leaked images, and the Joy-Con have a magnet embedded in them.

This would allow the removal and attachment of the controllers to be much easier and smoother.

It is important to reiterate that the images are in no way verified, and it is possible that they are fake.

However, VGC claims that a source has confirmed to them that the images match what they were told about the console.

In July, Nintendo released a new Switch charging dock that allows users to charge their existing Joy-Con separately from the console.

People took this release as confirmation that the old Joy-Con will not work with the new console, furthering rumours that the new controllers will be magnetic.
