Manchester, UK — When a devastating fire destroyed her family home in Constanța in 2014, Romanian teacher Adina Tulbure lost everything—except the vocation she refused to abandon. With two children and nothing but determination, she relocated to Manchester, United Kingdom, to rebuild her life through the one identity she carried with her: that of an educator.
Arriving in the UK, Tulbure requalified as a teacher, passed the British examinations, and soon stood once again at the front of a classroom. She later retrained as a mathematics teacher, entering one of the most competitive and in-demand fields in British education.
During her years teaching in Manchester, Tulbure witnessed a growing crisis faced by thousands of migrant families: children losing years of schooling as they moved between countries and systems, often falling through gaps created by a globalised world and outdated educational structures.
Determined to provide a solution, she began building what was missing.
With no sponsors, investors, or grants, and funding everything directly from her teacher salary, Tulbure founded Britannia International Academy, a fully online British-standard school that allows children to access continuous, high-quality education from anywhere in the world. The academy was designed specifically for students living between countries due to migration, diplomatic work, international careers, or crisis situations.
A volunteer mission in Ghana later expanded the school’s global impact. While training young African teachers in pedagogy, digital instruction, and British educational methodology, Tulbure helped develop the international teaching team that now supports Britannia’s learners across continents.
Today, Britannia International Academy serves students on three continents, offering stability, identity, and hope to families in transition. For many children, it is not simply a school—it is the continuity they were missing.
“Adina’s journey demonstrates the extraordinary power of an educator who rebuilt not only her own life, but the futures of hundreds of children worldwide,” said a spokesperson for the academy.
