Staff at an Australian petrol station were shocked to find the store under siege from a half-naked robber armed with a stick and a stone on Thursday night.
The suspect – perhaps loosely inspired by classic 1990s Keanu Reeves thriller Point Break – turned up to the store in a suburb of Ipswich, near Brisbane, barefoot and wearing only a pair of beach shorts.
Security footage shows him wandering the perimeter carrying a stick before finding a rock and hurling it through a glass door.
The stone can be seen punching a hole through one side and shattering the glass but isn’t enough to break it open.
Despite having severely weakened one of the two panes, he bizarrely decides to try and break through the other one, first using his stick and then by kicking it.
He eventually appears to give up before moving towards a service window further down the building, where detectives say he began ‘threatening staff and demanding cash’.
Queensland Police said in a statement: ‘Initial investigations indicate just after 11:30pm a man attended a petrol station on Redbank Plains Road armed with a rock and a stick.
‘After obtaining an amount of cash, the man fled on foot on Redbank Plains Road in a northerly direction.
